DeSlopify is a brain-training app for Android: 13 short games, an IQ test and a cognitive test, made by The BugHex ("we", "us"). It works without an account and without a connection, and it is paid for by ads. This policy explains what stays on your phone, what leaves it, and who receives it.
The short version
- Everything works without an account. Your name, age group, scores, streaks and test results are kept on your phone, and every game and both tests run there. Details.
- An account is optional, and only for backup and leaderboards. If you create one, we store your email address, a hashed password, your name and age group, a backup copy of your progress, and the game results you play while signed in. Details.
- You can delete your account at any time, in the app or on our website, and everything we hold about it is deleted at once. Details.
- The app shows ads from Google AdMob, and in some countries from Start.io when Google has no ad to show. To choose, count and pay for ads, these companies receive information about your device, including its advertising ID. Where the law requires it, you are asked first. Details.
- Test results are for interest only. DeSlopify is not a medical or diagnostic tool, and its IQ and cognitive scores are estimates, not a clinical assessment.
We do not sell your personal information.
What stays on your phone
All of this is kept in the app's private storage, which no other app can read:
| What | Why |
|---|---|
| The name you enter, and the age group you choose | To greet you, and to compare your scores with people your age |
| Your best and latest score in each game, for each day you play | For your Brain Index, skill scores, streaks, charts and daily workout |
| Your IQ and cognitive test results, with each answer and how long it took | To show your result, its range and a review of every answer |
| Which games you have practised, and your theme | So the app does not repeat practice rounds, and opens in the colours you chose |
Without an account, none of this leaves your phone. Uninstalling the app deletes it, as does Profile → Privacy → Erase progress on this phone.
If you create an account
Creating an account, from Profile → Backup, is optional. Signing in on another phone brings your progress back; nothing else in the app needs it.
What we store
| What | Why |
|---|---|
| Your email address | To sign you in, and to answer you if you write to us |
| Your password, stored only as a one-way hash (bcrypt), never as the password itself | To check that it is you signing in |
| Your name and age group | To show your name on leaderboards and to keep your scores comparable |
| A backup copy of the progress described above | To restore it when you sign in on another phone, or after reinstalling |
| The game results you play while signed in: the game, score, accuracy, level reached, right and wrong answers, average reaction time, how long the game took, and when | To rank you on that game's leaderboard |
While you are signed in, the backup is updated a few seconds after your progress changes. Other players can see your name and your best score on each game's leaderboard; they cannot see your email address, your test results or anything else.
Where it is kept
On a server we rent from a hosting provider, reached only over an encrypted connection (HTTPS). The server's web front end keeps standard access logs, which include your IP address, the time and the address requested, for up to 14 days, to keep the service secure. We do not use them for anything else.
Signing out
Signing out stops the backup. Your progress stays on your phone, and the copy in your account stays there until you sign in again or delete the account.
Deleting your account
You can delete your account, its backup and your leaderboard results in either of two ways:
- In the app: Profile → Privacy → Delete account.
- On the web, without the app: apps.thebughex.com/deslopify/delete-user, with your email address and password.
Deletion is immediate and permanent: the account, the backup and every game result recorded for it are removed together, and we keep no copy. Access logs that mention your IP address are not linked to your account and expire within 14 days. Progress on your phone is not affected; erase it from Profile → Privacy → Erase progress on this phone, or uninstall the app.
If you no longer know your password, email support@thebughex.com from the address you signed up with and we will delete the account for you within 30 days.
Ads
DeSlopify shows banner and native ads on its screens, and offers a short rewarded ad to open an IQ or cognitive test result. You can always decline the rewarded ad with Not now; the result is kept and you can open it later. If no ad is available, the result opens without one.
No ads are shown while a game or a test is in progress.
Google AdMob
Most ads are served by Google AdMob. To do that, Google's ads software in the app collects:
| What | Why |
|---|---|
| Your device's IP address, which can indicate your approximate location (country or city, never a precise location) | To pick ads relevant to where you are, and to detect fraud |
| Your device's advertising ID and app set ID | To limit how often you see the same ad, measure ads, and, only if you allow it, personalise them |
| How you interact with ads (views, taps, video ads watched) and when the app is launched | To count and pay for ads, and to detect fraud |
| Diagnostic information, such as how quickly ads load and how they perform on your device | To keep ads from slowing the app down |
Google uses this information under its own privacy policy, and may share it with the ad technology providers it works with. You can read how Google uses information from apps that show its ads at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.
Start.io
When Google has no ad to show, a banner, native or rewarded ad may come from Start.io instead. Start.io is used only where no consent is legally required before ads are shown, so never in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, and never for anyone who chooses Under 18 as their age group. Start.io's software in the app collects:
| What | Why |
|---|---|
| Your device's IP address, which can indicate your approximate location | To pick ads relevant to where you are, and to detect fraud |
| Your device's advertising ID | To measure ads and limit repeats |
| The list of apps installed on your phone, where your advertising ID is available | To pick relevant ads |
| Diagnostic information about how its ads software runs | To fix problems with it |
DeSlopify does not ask for location permission, so Start.io cannot read your precise location. Start.io uses this information under its own privacy policy.
Consent and teen settings
If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, or anywhere else a law requires it, the app shows Google's consent form before any ad is requested. You can change your answer at any time from Profile → Privacy → Ad choices.
Google's ads in DeSlopify are limited to content suitable for teens. If you choose Under 18 as your age group, Google's ad requests are also marked as coming from a teenager, which limits what is shown and how it is personalised, and Start.io is not used at all.
Permissions
| Permission | Why |
|---|---|
| Internet and network state | For ads, and for the account and backup if you use one |
| Advertising ID | So ads can be measured and, if you allow it, personalised |
| Wi-Fi state | Used by the Start.io ads software |
DeSlopify does not ask for your location, camera, microphone, contacts, files or photos.
Children
DeSlopify is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we will delete it.
Your choices and rights
- No account: use the app without one, and nothing about your progress leaves your phone.
- Personalised ads: change your answer from Profile → Privacy → Ad choices where it is shown, or delete your advertising ID in your phone's settings.
- Your account: see and change your name and age group in the app, and delete the account at any time as described above. To receive a copy of what we hold, email us.
If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, you have the right to access, correct, delete or restrict the use of your personal information, to object to its use, and to complain to your local data protection authority. We rely on your consent for personalised ads; on our contract with you for the account, backup and leaderboards you choose to use; and on our legitimate interest in keeping a free app working and paid for, for non-personalised ads and security logs.
Some US state laws, such as California's, may treat using an advertising ID for personalised ads as "sharing" personal information. You can opt out of that by deleting your advertising ID.
Changes to this policy
If a future version of DeSlopify collects anything not described here, this policy will be updated before that version is published, and the "Last updated" date above will change.
